Hearts unblocked: play Hearts online free right here in your browser — no download, no sign-up, works on a school Chromebook.

Hearts is the timeless four-player trick-taking card game where the main objective is giving away as many dangerous points as possible while keeping your own score near zero. Every round puts you at a virtual table opposite three clever computer opponents, dealing a full fifty-two card deck across four hands. Instead of competing to take tricks like standard trump games, Hearts forces you to plan every discard defensively, dodging penalty cards while reading the flow of the table.

While Whack Your Boss is famous for high-energy slapstick comedy and quick stress relief, having a calm card classic on the roster provides the perfect change of pace. When you need a break from smashing office equipment, a quick match of Hearts lets you settle into calculated strategy, sharp memory work, and satisfying tactical reads.

How to play

At the start of each deal, thirteen cards are distributed to each player. In standard rounds, you select three cards from your hand to pass to an opponent before play begins. The player holding the two of clubs leads the opening trick, and every player must follow the led suit if they hold a matching card. If you cannot follow suit, you may discard any card from your hand, creating opportunities to dump hazardous penalty cards onto other players.

The highest card of the suit led wins the trick and leads the next turn. Hearts cannot be led until the suit has been broken by someone discarding a heart during a previous trick. Each heart collected adds one penalty point to your score, while the notorious Queen of Spades adds thirteen penalty points. The game continues across multiple deals until one player reaches one hundred points, at which point the player with the lowest score wins.

Tips for a lower score

  • Clear short suits early: If you only have one or two cards in diamonds or clubs, play them early to empty that suit. Being void in a suit lets you safely discard high hearts or the Queen of Spades whenever an opponent leads that suit.
  • Protect high spades: Holding the Ace or King of Spades is risky if you do not have several low spades to back them up. Pass unprotected high spades before the round starts so you do not get forced into capturing the Queen of Spades.
  • Track the Queen of Spades: Keep track of whether the Queen of Spades has made an appearance. Avoid leading spades once low safety cards run out until the queen has been safely caught by an opponent.
  • Block moon shots: If you notice a single opponent aggressively taking every trick and hoovering up hearts, do not hesitate to sacrifice a trick by winning it with a mid-value card to prevent them from shooting the moon.

Questions about Hearts

Is Hearts unblocked at school?

Hearts runs in an ordinary browser tab from whackyourboss.org, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.

How do points work in classic Hearts?

Every heart card taken in a trick adds 1 penalty point to your score, while the Queen of Spades adds 13 points. The goal is to finish the game with the lowest total score.

What happens when you shoot the moon in Hearts?

If you manage to win all thirteen hearts and the Queen of Spades in a single round, you score zero points while giving 26 penalty points to each of your three opponents.

Can I lead with a Heart on the first trick?

No, the opening trick must always begin with the two of clubs, and hearts cannot be led until a player discards a heart on a previous trick to break the suit.

Does this Hearts game save your match progress?

Your active game state and ongoing match scores remain stored directly in your local browser session so you can finish rounds at your own pace.
